Two solid segments from two legendary directors, George A. Romero & Dario Argento. I have seen Two Evil Eyes a couple of times before, this was my favourite viewing.
I enjoy Argento’s story slightly more. It’s a graphic twisted reimagining of The Black Cat. Harvey Keitel plays an alcoholic obsessed with photographing grisly murders. It’s a fun performance and he expresses Rod’s hatred towards the kitty perfectly. Theres even a bizarre dream sequence which is kind of fun.
Romero’s segment is good too and feels like an extended episode of Tales From The Darkside. It has a fitting ending for the two money grabbing devious characters. The hypnosis aspect of the story adds a lot I thought. A fun anthology overall each story is given roughly one hour and has enough time to develop. Both segments have satisfying payoffs and rewatch value.
