Here it is, The Terminator has finally hit the 4K format in ultra high definition. James Cameron’s action/sci-fi classic tells the story of Sarah Conner, a waitress who lives with her friend. Little does she know, a cyborg killing machine, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, has been sent from the future to assassinate her in an attempt to prevent the birth of her son, who in the future will lead the human resistance against the deadly machines.
Being a studio release there isn’t an abundance of special features as expected. The steelbook artwork is gorgeous and pops with it’s colours and simplistic artwork design. The 4K transfer has been beautifully done. Whether it could look any better, I am not sure? All I can say is it’s clear, clean and everything from the terminator’s robotic skeleton to the action sequences look tremendous.
The police station scenes thump hard and look all the better in 4K. Watching the terminator kick ass is glorious. There’s also a standard release which has the same 4K disk so the steelbook isn’t an essential purchase. This has to be one of the most anticipated 4K releases of 2024 along with A nightmare on Elm street. It’s a wonderful thing owning this movie on the format. Let’s hope T2 gets some special treatment sooner rather than later.
