Scream Factory’s recent release of The Stepfather (1987) was a must purchase for me and fans alike. There’s no UK release on any format outside of digital & DVD. I think this is one of the best and for me one of the most anticipated 4K releases of 2024. Scream Factory have done a fantastic job getting this transfer and edition out there for physical media enthusiasts.
The film starts ominously with actor Terry O’Quinn staring into a bathroom mirror after butchering his family as he begins to organise a new identity so he can escape and move onto the next unknowing family. His new identity is Jerry Blake. The film centres around Jerry trying to keep up his sinister facade however someone linked to his previous life is in his trail. Also stepdaughter Stephanie is beginning to question his motives and stumbles across some revelations regarding Jerry.
The new 4K transfer is a worthy upgrade, even from my iTunes download of the movie. It’s clean and crisp and the autumn daylight scenes look superb in my opinion this is where the transfer shines.
