The Home (2025) Review

The Home has mystery intertwined with disturbing, nightmarish imagery and an explosive violent finale. The story follows Max who is ordered to help as the new janitor at a huge retirement home due to his community service order. He’s greeted, welcomed and then the strange dreams begin leading to his discovery of a disturbing revelation. He has been warned to stay clear of the fourth floor. Something inhuman and downright evil is happening up there.

I hope you read the warning! Halfway into the film. Max’s new friend Norma (a resident at the home) falls to her death in brutal fashion. This scene is particularly gory as Norma is impaled on a bed of fencing spikes. This is where some of the mystery erodes at just the right point. We now follow Max as he uncovers the mystery of the patients of the fourth floor. There may also be someone closer to him then he realises up there.

I thought The Home balanced mystery and suspense with a big bang violent ending very competently. The scene involving Max’s mother echoing Norma’s words “A heart knows a heart” is bone chilling and a red flag and a warning to be revered. No one can be trusted and something insane is being hidden like a dirty little secret.

Pete Davidson performs well as Max especially when he’s kicking some witchy type weirdo ass. The movie is intriguing, bloodthirsty & unravels at a great pace equating to 97 minutes of mystery and sinister revelations. There’s borrowing littered throughout from films such as Rosemary’s Baby & Australian film Alison’s Birthday (1981).
