THE BORDERLANDS (2013) Limited Edition Blu-Ray Second Sight Films

The borderlands is a movie I have seen multiple times. It’s been stuck on DVD since it’s initial release. When Second Sight films announced it’s UK debut on Blu-Ray, I became excited and had to order myself the limited edition set. The artwork is very attractive and has some gorgeous colour tones. Even the spine looks stunning. The supplements are what we have been conditioned to expect from Second Sight. That’s not a bad thing because, as usual with this label, quality is ensured. It has art cards, a packed & stacked book with the hard limited edition thick slip box to house the black amaray case containing the Blu-Ray disk. On the amaray sleeve there is no alternate artwork which is standard practice from Second Sight. The newly commissioned art looks fantastic and captures the essence of the film well.

The transfer looks great and is a sweet improvement from the DVD copy. There is an adequate selection of accompanying extras/special features they include:

New audio commentary by actors Robin Hill and Gordon Kennedy, producer Jennifer Handorf and special effects artist Dan Martin.

Dressed the part a new interview with Robin Hill and Gordon Kennedy.

Losing Faith: A new interview with Jennifer Handorf.

Monster Goo: A new interview with Dan Martin.

Archive Featurette: Behind the scenes.

Others specs include English subtitles. DTS-HD master Audio 5.1

Another attribute is that the Blu-Ray disk is Region Free.

The film itself is an intriguing one indeed. Two Vatican investigators and their camera man/audio guy are called to a quiet British countryside village. Their task is to investigate alleged paranormal phenomenon at a small chapel. Situated in a remote location. This is found footage by the way but made very professionally and competently. The situation with the chapel progresses leading to a scary and real revelation ending in a claustrophobic nightmare for the team.

Whilst this isn’t one of my favourite films from the found footage sub-genre. It is mysterious somewhat and delivers in many ways. The characters interactions are realistic and there is some good dialogue. The borderlands is a stellar and impactful found footage film that keeps the viewer questioning leading to a tight finale.
