On the surface new astrological horror, Tarrot, is a simple movie. However it is filled with fun and interesting astrology and star sign references. I recently watched the movie and had a blast. For me, it was as if someone crossed 13 Ghosts (2001) with Final destination and added the element of astrology.
The story starts with a small group of friends partying at a big house they have rented from Air BNB. When all of the alcohol has been guzzled down the group have no choice but to search for other means of entertainment. After breaking the lock on a door which leads to a restricted room. The group head down a staircase leading them to basement area filled astrological items and antiques. It isn’t long before the find an old looking Tarrot card box containing a peculiar set of reading cards. Each member of the group has a reading with the cards. Little do they know the deck is cursed and now there readings will be the death of them. As they come true in deadly fashion.
This movie has some great monsters. Each member of the group will come across their reading’s character who will ultimately be the death of them.
The monsters involved looked pretty cool and scary. One particular scene involving the fool and an elevator was masterfully executed. The elevator goes up & down, every time it reaches a different floor the fool gets closer and closer. His look resembles a dead eyed Jester.
TARROT is in no way perfect. It’s a fun easy watch lasting around ninety minutes. The characters fight and scramble to uncover the origins of the Tarrot deck leading them down a rabbit hole that seems almost impossible to escape. Some of the kills are brutal but not overly gory. The cast is good and fits the narrative. As a movie it felt like something from the 2000’s. I think it would fit into that decade of horror perfectly. Highly enjoyable albeit a little predictable.
