Slashers is an early 2000’s slasher centred around a Japanese Reality Television show. The movie showcases the first ever American episode featuring contestants from the USA. Contestants must survive a maze of traps and serial killers, the survivors will win millions of dollars. The new release from Terror vision on Region A Blu-Ray is the first I had heard of this movie. Therefore I decided to give it a go. Here are a few quick thoughts from my viewing experience.
Overall this movie was quite fun and entertaining. Although the first hour is a little slow. Some of the acting is rather bad and some of it is brilliantly hammed up. The killers are as fun as a party between Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees. My personal favourite was goofy masked redneck Chainsaw Charlie. No guessing what weapon he’s wielding. There’s some great gore in this one to keep gore hounds appeased and boobs to keep everyone happy. The twist is fairly interesting involving one of the contestants which is revealed close to the movie’s climax.
It’s not a perfect horror movie however and does have pacing issues earlier on. To be blunt the earlier moments are a little dull. Thankfully things do pick up. The new Blu-ray from Terror Vision does feature two cuts of the film. I opted for the directors cut at around 100 minutes. The other cut is 2 hours which I did not fancy. Overall a fairly fun time with some cool killers. The transfer also looks superb.
Movie Score: 3/5
