Home Grown Horrors Volume 3 Blu-Ray set Vinegar Syndrome

Vinegar Syndrome’s Halfway to Black Friday Sale has been and gone. I picked up two highly anticipated items, one being the subject of this review, The Home grown Horrors volume 3 Blu-Ray box set. The previous instalment in this series contained two fun as hell movies, Dead Girls and the forgotten regional slasher Moonstalker. The third The Hanging Heart I did not favour and found a bit of a drag. My anticipation levels for volume 3 were very high, however after viewing the set in it’s entirety I can say that I am somewhat disappointed. Don’t get me wrong I know exactly what I’m getting into with these regional low budget horrors.

Two of the three I really didn’t enjoy at all. It would be a stretch saying I would watch them ever again. Deadly Love was abysmal and one off the most pointless, boring, drab, depressingly toned movies I have ever witnessed. The dreary score thumps throughout the film and just somehow manages to make the viewing experience tiresome and completely depressing. The kills and action are near enough non-existent. The whole movie for me just felt like a dull waste of time.

Now onto Revenge, another boring slog of a film to get through. I’ll admit the premise is slightly more interesting than Deadly Love’s. The plot revolves around occult linked murders in a small town. Even the creature appearances at the movie’s climax couldn’t save this one. Boring characters with an absolutely pants storyline. Some of the kills elevated the movie in some parts slightly. Overall though I didn’t even find this low budget affair to remotely resemble anything fun.

To end the article on a high. I will praise the first movie which is presented in the boxset Hauntedween. This was a good low budget time with a fun story and characters. I thought some of the frat boys were hilarious and the killer’s backstory was fun and tied into the movie’s future events. This one was easily the best entry in this volume and the most entertaining and well made.

Let’s hope Vinegar Syndrome have something stellar planned for volume 4. I am still eager to own more of these boxsets.
