HANDMADE BY ROBOTS

Knit Series collectible vinyl figure No.81 - Ghost Face

After watching some unboxing videos featuring Handmade by Robots products, I decided “yes, damn it, I must own some in my collection. Before I go further into this piece on my Ghostface. I will provide some info & details about the company that make this adorable little guys and gals.

On the Handmade by Robots website there is an interesting and detailed statement. Presented as being from actual manufacturing robots. Below is that amusing statement. I have copied and pasted it from www.hmbr.fans

We, the robots, wanted to stimulate neural activity in humans, our creators, by doing something they call “special.”

Our research indicated humans value things that are “handmade” and consider them as an exhibit of consideration and gratitude. However, we don’t have hands in literal terms. So, first, we’ve built ourselves robot hands. We’ve printed, shredded, re-printed to be exact 1,503 blueprints. Initial designs were discretely complex, some were not mechanically viable and efficient, and we couldn’t find the right hands to build in some of the others. But then, we have found just the right one, a perfect fit for our conveyor belt and perfectly square boxes.

Once tests and validation were completed, we advanced to the second task, defining “cute.” It was not easy to define cute with binary codes, but we have researched it heavily. After reviewing 1,542,521 articles in detail, we have observed humans particularly like a woven texture, which required wool or cotton typically.

Finally, we’ve found precisely 274 references to the definition of “warm” and its calming effects on mobile biological units like yourselves. Of course, we, the robots, know not of such things. However, we’ve taken “hands,” “cute,” and “warm” as inputs and our best approximation as an output the appearance of interwoven organic fibers into recognizable characters from your popular culture, though made from solidified polymers.

We are confident each figure would be given and received as gestures of friendship and love. May your acquaintances find value in such meaningless activities, and we’re here to scale and optimize whatever your binary needs may be.

An abbreviated version of this is printed on the side of the figures packaging. From what I have seen on the HMBR website, this company seems super cool and even has a sense of humour. There’s so many cute little friends to choose from all based on pop culture characters. Anything from Scooby Doo to Jack Skeleton. I have my eye on the awesome looking Leatherface next. Will it be regular or pretty lady?

So onto my first HMBR pick up. I purchased the fluorescent pink faced Ghostface. Ghostface is the costume worn by the killers from the scream franchise. The figure is approximately five inches tall and quite substantially Chunky. The authentic unique look of the figure may give the impression that it’s a knitted doll. It actually isn’t. The figure is made from a durable hard plastic. It’s a vinyl figure.

AWWW look how cute he is! Overall I think this is a cool, hip, colourful, fun & cost effective way to add some horror characters that look authentic to my collection. So yeah, so far I am enjoying what this company does. I would highly recommend these vinyl figures to any figure & doll collector. Especially if they’re into Funko Pops. I would even say Handmade by robots are nicer vinyl figures and feel slightly better made.

Below we have some pictures of the fun packaging they are housed in and side views of the figure.
