Get lost in the woods: A quick review of Wrong Turn (2003) on 4K UHD from Umbrella Entertainment

Umbrella Entertainment, known for their fantastic Limited Edition 4K and Blu-ray box sets, have delivered a Wrong Turn 4K UHD that is well worth the upgrade, especially if you’re still rocking the DVD. The transfer is superb, and with the movie being set in the backwoods during daylight, it really showcases the advantages of the UHD format. I opted for the slimmer slipcover edition as I prefer the artwork on the slip. Umbrella are also offering a deluxe edition featuring a hardbound box and a wealth of extra supplements.

Wrong Turn is a 2003 slasher movie set in the rural backwoods of West Virginia, a perfect location for some slashing and human hunting. When Chris’s car (played by Desmond Harrington, from Ghost Ship and TV’s Dexter) crashes into a group of friends whose vehicle has broken down, a fight for survival begins. It starts with the discovery of a derelict cabin deep in the woods, where Chris and the group, including Jessie (Eliza Dushku), uncover unimaginable horrors inside. The film becomes a tense cat-and-mouse chase where every turn could be your last. The cabin’s occupants are disfigured, inbred monstrosities who are skilled hunters and dangerous foes.

Wrong Turn is a worthwhile upgrade, and the daylight scenes really pop with rich colour and impressive detail. This edition comes with two discs: the 4K UHD features the film and an audio commentary, while the accompanying Blu-ray includes a plethora of archival features, along with cast and crew interviews.

This is a justified upgrade from 1080p for me. Every time I watch the original Wrong Turn, I enjoy it even more.
