Just finished viewing the new 4K set of CEMETERY MAN from blu ray label Severin films. This was my second time watching this English language Italian production from Michele Soavi (STAGEFRIGHT, THE CHURCH & THE SECT). The The film follows on-site graveyard grounds keeper Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett) and his best friend, helper & gravedigger Gnaghi. With sex on a foggy evening among the tombstones to reincarnated flying dead girl heads DELLAMORTE DELLAMORE provides horror with zombie showdowns and laughs along the way. The ending is also ambiguously well crafted. Anyway I’ll share some thoughts on the stunning new boxset release,
Severin give fans absolutely gorgeous packaging. A glossy outer box with stunning artwork. Four disks to help justify the steep price tag. The set includes the feature on a 4K UHD disk, feature on Blu Ray, a bonus extras Blu Ray and the CD soundtrack, a staple of Severin’s limited editions. The disks are housed in a black amaray case which features awesome artwork of two graveyard lovers with a green tint, creating a smokey looking image. The set has an accompanying book filled with essays on the film. The Book’s cover is glossy, the overall quality is outstanding.
Now for what you have came for, the most important question you’ll be asking. How does the 4K transfer measure up? It is beautiful. The transfer is crisp, sharp and clean. You may even be mistaken by thinking this was a film shot yesterday. The daylight scenes, the foggy night cemetery scenes and every zombie decapitation look glorious on the 4K format.
Overall this is the definitive release of this film. It is looking like it could be a potential candidate for release of the year 2024.
