Newcomer Treasured Films are making waves in the world of physical media, especially when they are putting out beautifully presented editions like Dawn Of The Mummy, which we will get into right here. The Section 3 video nasty hasn’t seen the light of day on a high definition format, until now. The new edition has been crafted to cater for us hardcore physical media collectors. It’s a hard bound set accompanied by a thick well put together booklet. A hard outer box with gorgeous newly commissioned artwork. Inside is the Scanovo case housing the Blu-ray disk. The sleeve also has two alternative artworks for you to flip at your leisure.
I’ll talk about the newly restored transfer first. Overall the picture quality is bright, smooth and I only really noticed one instance of a dip in quality. This was during the intro credits right at the film’s beginning. The location of the movie, set in and around a pyramid is a nice change for me. The scenes inside the mummy’s tomb gave me Goosebumps vibes. As it reminded me of a classic episode of the 90’s series. That being The Return of The Mummy. The mummy himself looked scary and creepy. He’s not wrapped in bandages like your typical mummy. More of a composed walking corpse. Take a look at this articles pictures to see what I’m trying to convey.
The plot is relatively simple. Film crew at the mummy’s tomb is terrorised by a powerful evil that has risen from the grave. Being a section 3 video nasty. This movie is no slouch with the violence. There’s some glorious kills for the slasher fans and one in particular looked fantastic. Let’s just say some unfortunate character receives a sharp object directly inserted into their head. The ending has a nice horror touch, take that as you will my readers.
Trashy horror movie connoisseurs will want to add this to their collection. I would recommend grabbing this limited edition as the price isn’t inflated like the 4K boxed editions out there. You can bag this nice set for under £25 at most online retailers. I’m a 4k collector predominantly and I still found this UK debut Blu-Ray from Treasured Films refreshing. As good as all of these 4K upgrades are. There’s something still special about getting a movie you’ve never owned before on Blu-Ray. Treasured Films are knocking it out of the park. Bring on Stuart Gordon’s King Of The Ants in January.
