Comic releases we’re excited for this Autumn

Summer is over and its time to go inside and read comics. But what to read?? Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. Here’s the comic releases that have us shivering with anticipation this autumn.

Dwellings

Its cartoony! Its gory! Its got 72 pages! Some of you may already be familiar with Jay Stephens’ Dwellings, it has been crowd funded and published by Black Eye Books since 2020, but it now has a new home at Oni Press, who will be republishing the series in three supersized bimonthly instalments. Issue 1 was released in August to such high demand that the publisher couldn’t fulfil all the orders from retailers. Take a look at Oni’s official trailer for the series.

Each issue will feature two complete stories set in Elwich, a perfect American town, on the surface at least, with issue 2’s press release promising “supernatural psychosis and paranormal paranoia”. Just look at that murderous puppet on the cover, ain’t it adorable?

If you like some fun sprinkled into your terror, don’t miss this.

Issue 2 is out October 18

Creepshow Vol. 2

Why watch a TV show about a comic book when you could just read comics? You could even roleplay as The Creep while you do it. Sure, you may not have his good looks, but you have a tatty old hoody and a month to wait for season 4, so you might as well.

The comic tie-in of a TV show, that was a reboot of a film series, that, itself, was an homage to 1950’s horror comics. It would have been easy to lose something along the way but the first volume of Image’s Creepshow was exactly what I was hoping for, capturing the feel of the original Creepshow and the Tales from the Crypt type comics that inspired it.

I was already looking forward to volume 2 before I found out Garth Ennis would be involved, he’ll be writing the first story of issue 1 with art from Becky Cloonan.

It’ll be on shelves September 13th.

Brynmore

I’m a big fan of Steve Niles and I was pleased to hear he was once again teaming up with October Faction artist, Damien Worm. The duo are back together for a new project, Brynmore, described in IDW’s press release as “harrowing Gothic horror” and the first two parts of this 5 issue miniseries are already out.

In the first issue we meet Mark Turner as he returns to his hometown, Turner Island, named after his great-great-great grandfather. We get to know Mark as he reacquaints himself with the locals, befriends a dog and starts work rebuilding a creepy, old, abandoned church. There’s a lot of place setting before the story really kicks of but after reading issue 2 I’m excited for more.

Issue 3 will be released September 27th

I Hate This Place Vol. 2

Sometimes I like to save things, wait until the TPB is out, so I can gobble them up all in one go. That’s how I’m doing it with the second half of I Hate This Place. Having enjoyed the first volume I decided I didn’t want to be drip fed the assuredly exciting conclusion month by month, no, like a bride saving herself for her wedding night, I abstained, avoided reviews and spoilers, and let my anticipation build.

Now, with only a few more weeks to wait, and having allowed myself a peak at Images website while researching for this article, I am eagerly judging a book by its cover. All of its covers. Take a look at the gallery above to whet your appetite.

I Hate This Place Vol. 2 is available from October 11th.
