Having had a slack week for watching movies, I’ve decided the normal 5 best watches will be a ranking of my 3 best watches from last week.
3. Hotel Fear (1978) Watched on Blu-Ray Disk
A weird Spanish horror. Hotel Fear had some strange sequences. The idea of a killer knocking off anyone who tries to harm the girl was the most interesting part. There’s some sleazy stuff as well including sex obsessed guests. It was a solid watch and I would recommend to Spanish horror fans and those who enjoy exploitation films & slashers.
2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) Watched on 4K UHD disk
TCM part 2 is awesome as a sequel and bad in some ways. Tobe Hooper’s idea of ramping up absurdity and gore and adding Dennis Hooper as the vengeful crazed Lefty is genius. It completely diverts from the path and tone of the 1974 original and becomes it’s own wacky world of sawyer family madness. It’s no TCM (1974) that’s a top tier horror classic. But it is a hilariously gory fun ride and a standout in the franchise.
1. Drag Me To Hell (2009) Watched On 4K UHD Disk (Mild Spoilers)
Being cursed by a gypsy must be a petrifying burden. The ending on the train track is shocking and unfortunate for Christine. Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Darkman & A Simple Plan) meshes big budget creepy horror with action to great affect. Some of the CGI sticks out like a sore thumb but don’t let that get in the way of what is a super fun 2000’s horror that shines on 4K.
