Hello gore hounds you’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for something grotesque to wet your appetite. Below are 5 gruesome recommendations that will test even the most seasoned slasher fan.
5. Knucklebones (2016)
After a group of friends unleash a dormant murderous demon. It becomes a fight for their lives. Knucklebones is pretty awesome as far as kills go for a modern slasher. Be warned though the characters are paper thin and it won’t be for everyone’s liking. The elaborate deaths do boost this movie and it’s worth at least a one time watch.
4. High Tension (2003)
Some 2000s French extreme now from director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes (2006) & Crawl (2019). High Tension is brutal and even made yours truly feel Squeamish. It’s a twisty affair set in rural France. A woman is stalked by a sadistic killer in a bloodthirsty cat and mouse game. Who is the killer? And what does he want? The scenes involving the car windscreen glass really made me squirm and cringe. It’s a very well made competent thriller. Highly recommended.
3. The Burning (1981)
From the heyday of the slasher genre. Comes The Burning, a nasty camp slasher featuring grisly effects from master Tom Savini (Day of the dead (1985) & The Prowler (1981). Cropsy a brooding killer stalks the camp years after he was horribly disfigured by a group of teens. The canoe scene in particular is rather shocking and as nasty as they come. Don’t miss this slasher classic that even gives Friday the 13th a run for it’s money.
2. Terrifier 2 (2022)
How do you up the shenanigans and gore from Art The clown’s first venture? By uping the ante in Terrifier 2 to a ridiculous extent. The bedroom scene will be a difficult watch for some. The story is also fleshed out more in this 138 minute monster of a horror movie. Get your barf bags ready.
1. Headless (2015)
Headless is darn right disturbing in parts. This retro slasher is yucky and will make you need a shower after viewing. It will shock you and may even make you throw up. Because this ultra violent indie slasher goes to uncomfortable places like no other movie. A tormented and insane feral serial killer goes on a murderous rampage, where no one he takes a liking to is safe. The kills are absolutely horrific. Theres one scene where he bathes in a pit of rotting corpses and blood. Sure the characters aren’t too fleshed out but the acting serviceable and it’s all about the violence anyway. It’s a movie more people should see. Test your limits with this nasty little gritty outing. It’s also set in the seventies which adds to the old school looking aesthetic.
Look out for more recommendations next week as I will pick another sub-genre and try to influence your weekend movie lineup.
