Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter (1974) Hammer 4K/Blu-Ray Limited Edition Review

Hammer’s New restoration of Captain Kronos is stunningly gorgeous. In fact the whole presentation of this incredible boxset is peak physical media, especially for a singular film. The black hardbound outer box featuring the Kronos logo is minimalism at its best, solidifying the concept less is more. Once you have removed it, there is another box with beautiful, colourful newly commissioned artwork. Inside the second box is a digi-pack housing 5 disks. Three cuts of the film are presented across the 2 4K UHD disks. Then the same cuts are on the two Blu-ray disks. The fifth disk features a documentary and interviews.

Accompanying the digital-pack are top quality art cards and two top tier books. One of them is a black and white Captain Kronos graphic novel. The film itself is a joyful swashbuckling period piece. The film has a simple premise, a vampire hunter Captain Kronos and his scientist sidekick battle vampires in a rural village and uncover who is responsible for killings taking place in the local woods.

The costumes, sets and acting is engaging and I can see this being a film I will go back to when I need a dose of Hammer Horror. The Limited Edition is available now from HMV, Zavvi and Amazon, retail price £49.99.
