From Beyond (1986) 4K Review 88 Films

Director, Stuart Gordon (Reanimator & Dagon), brings H.P Lovecraft’s sci-fi horror tale to life. In this gory joyride of lovecraftian fantasy. Crawford (Jeffrey Combs), has made one hell of a discovery. Using machines he manages to find an entrance to another reality, somewhere where everything is different. The problem is something has been unleashed that wants to squirm its way into Crawford’s mind.

After adjusting my television, I was amazed how good this 4K transfer looked. Everything popped more after the adjustment, Barbara Crampton looked fantastic in a dominatrix attire and the gruesome final act looked sharper. One thing I did notice about From Beyond was the quality of acting, surprisingly the performances were done with a lot of passion as well as being over the top in some cases.

I was impressed by this release’s transfer, especially after the picture adjustments I made to my TV. The extras are plentiful, the limited edition set is stunning from 88 Films and it features new artwork from Uncle Frank, who also produced the artwork for Arrow Video’s Blood and Black Lace 4K. Underneath the slipcover is a hard slip box featuring more alternative art on the other side. The box houses the Black Amaray case holding both disks (4K & Blu-Ray) an also includes art cards & a reasonably sized poster. To sum things up this is one of 88 Film’s best horror 4K releases from 2024. Yeah there will a standard edition released soon but for collectors I would go for this Limited edition set as it will not be available forever.
