Longlegs is a thriller/horror with a divisive following. You’re either going to be hooked or tap out within thirty minutes. The movie has some glaring issues with pacing for some however it is also a tight thriller with a wacky unhinged performance from Nicholas Cage, who doesn’t have enough screen time but I guess it’s a case of not over exposing the monster per-say.
The movie looks ominous and the whole vibe and mood is dreary and dark, which is Longlegs’ strength. Maika Monroe plays Lee Harker a quiet, troubled FBI newbie with a link to Nick Cages’s LongLegs’s. One thing I will commend the film on is that it’s quite ambiguous but still manages to provide the viewer with an explanation which left me as a viewer satisfied.
One of the best scenes of the movie is when Longlegs spooks the young shop assistant and she shouts for her father calling Longlegs a “gross weird man”.
The movie has had its negative criticism and I completely understand some of the issues people have with it. If you haven’t watched yet I’d recommend trying it and coming to your own conclusion.
Movie score: 3/5
