EIGHT EYES (2023) Review

Vinegar Syndrome’s new movie Eight Eyes is a trippy, fun and violent new release, available now with a slipcover edition and a standard edition. After viewing this you may wonder if you’ve taken a mind altering substance.

The movie starts in Serbia where the film is set. Cass and her husband Gave are equipped with an old school video camera and a sense of adventure. Circumstances change and things take a different turn when the couple our introduced to a man eating his lunch on a bench. The man is named Saint Peter. No matter how hard they try nothing can avoid Saint Peter’s hospitality and thing start to become unhinged when Peter takes Cass and Gave home to meet the family.

The film starts off strong as we the viewer aren’t aware of the route the narrative will take. Everything is intriguing and I couldn’t wait to see what unravels. When all is exposed heading towards the film’s climax is where I lost interested. The ideas and themes in the film regarding the awakening of the third eye in human beings and the trippy head rides is where the plot weakens. We our saved by the action and violence towards the climax. However whilst being some interesting concepts I still feel like things get over convoluted and maybe a simpler cat and mouse, stranger danger theme would have suited our characters better. Still it’s an interesting film and has some solid performances with a rather well picked location.
