Me and my brother sometimes go for drives when we’re bored on dark winters nights. This one night in particular would be stuck with me forever. As the heater in my car warmed us up we chatted about gaming, movies and life in general. The radio played some annoying one beat track.
“Anything else on?” My brother asked.
“There’s a CDs in glove compartment” I responded focused on the road ahead. He grinned relinquishing a pink CD wallet.
“Old school and flamboyant” he laughed. We talked and drove around old sleepy villages and deserted country roads. The odd car passed us by but not many at all considering it was fairly late.
Funny how we went for a drive to kill our boredom well funny enough that very thing began to bore us. I had a not so bright idea!
“Let’s go on a creepy night walk” I suggested.
My eager brother responded “where?”
“The woods not far from here, should be packed with ghosts on a dark winters night” I joked.
We pulled at Tombstone woods and parked in front of the fisherman’s entrance gate as it was locked and the pond was closed for the night. We left the car and followed the path which led past the pond and towards the dark woods.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” My brother hesitated. I reassured him that everything was fine and we carried on towards the woods. I could barely see it was so dark we decided to use my phone torch to guide us.
The moon was full and somewhat illuminated the pathway. We took a divert through the dense wood trees surrounded us. Suddenly we heard a strange growling sound. It was a tone and pitch I had never heard before a low frequency and kind of distorted. My brother tapped my shoulder and pointed ahead at a clearing in the wood. He looked terrified, an expression of utter fear upon his face. I shone my torch forward and gasped. Several feet ahead was something out of this world. A creature over seven feet tall, with horns and a goats head. It had piercing red eyes with a man’s torso covered in scruffy black fur. It’s legs were twisted and to add insult to injury it had hooves.
We froze in terror as the creature just stared at us. Then it’s mouth opened revealing crooked decaying teeth. It let out a deafening scream which sounded very alien this sound was also a peculiar pitch and sort of distorted. Me and my brother glanced at each other then without saying anything we agreed to run. We belted through the trees in the direction of the car. We didn’t look back however I heard aggressive grunting and the sound of heavy bounding hooves several feet behind us.
Out of breath and approaching the car, we slowed down I spun around. The creature had gone. Once in the car as we were about to drive off I opened the windows to let the air out which had steamed them up. We then heard something that shook us to our cores. Coming from the direction of the woods was a distorted low pitched imitation of our mothers voice calling my younger brothers name. I started the engine and sped off away from the woods. Never again has me or my brother been back to Tombstone woods, not even in daylight.
