5 Christmas Horror movies for Xmas 2024

BLACK XMAS (2006)

Forget the appallingly tedious 2019 Black Christmas remake. This reimagining of Bob Clark’s magical Christmas prototype slasher is the way to go. It lacks the tense atmosphere of the 1974 original but instead opts for total carnage and bloody seasonal slayings. It’s almost like a completely different movie. Which is how a remake should be. Billy is given a grisly backstory and there’s plenty of young ladies being knocked off.

THE LEECH (2022)

This indie sleeper staring Jeremy Gardner (The Battery & Bliss) is an odd contraption. Father David welcomes Terry (Gardner) and his partner into his home. Things become twisted when the priest’s values and sanity are tested by the antagonistic couple.

CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980)

Harry saw mommy doing more than kissing Santa Claus. Now with a lasting impression left on Harry’s psyche. Christmas becomes a deep rooted obsession. Harry is determined to become the Father Christmas he has always needed. From Christmas parties to flying vans, Christmas evil provides an oddball gritty experience sprinkled with murder and obsession.

P2 (2007)

Imagine finishing your shift at work on Christmas Eve. And then realising you are trapped and locked in the parking lot with a deranged maniac baying for your blood. Well that’s simply the premise of P2 with a few more twists along the way and action.

THE MEAN ONE (2022)

The Mean One overall is an underwhelming and badly made low budget horror with an iffy low effort story. However there are reasons for viewing this turkey at least once. Basically it’s a horrorised version of How the Grinch stole Christmas. David Howard Thornton who plays Art The Clown from The Terrifier franchise. Is a mean murderous depiction of the Xmas detesting, furry green menace. Howard’s performance is stellar and enough to elevate this bad festive fright. Have fun with The Mean one however don’t expect superbly written characters and a masterclass in storytelling.
