10 Insanely Gory Horror movie Deaths

You will not want to be eating your meal whilst reading this one. Let’s take a brief look at some of Horror’s most intense, insane and grotesque death sequences.

10. Day of the Dead (1985) Bub’s Revenge

Captain Rhodes’s reign of terror comes to a gloriously gory end. Courtesy of Tom Savani’s wonderful gore effects. He screams in agony as a horde of zombies devour him from the inside out.

9. Mandy (2018) Chainsaw Duel

Red Miller goes full beast mode in a brawl that escalates into a chainsaw swordfight. Greasy, grimy, and totally metal. This one earns its cult status.

8. Hatchet II (2010) Chainsaw Double Trouble

Victor Crowley cranks up a double ended chainsaw and splits two characters from the crotch up… at the same time. It’s so over the top which suits the Hatchet series down to the ground.

7. Tenebrae (1982) Arterial Art Show

Dario Argento unleashes a balletic wrist-slicing kill, spraying walls with crimson in rhythmic bursts. Stylish and savage! This is classic Giallo elegance with a sharp edge.

6. The Sadness (2021) Train Carnage

This Taiwanese nightmare goes off the rails with a savage subway scene full of stabbings, eyeball trauma, and zero mercy. You’ll need a shower after and a therapy session.

5. Maniac (1980) Shotgun Shock

One of horror’s most legendary head explosions. The result is slow motion, skull splitting glory on the hood of a car.

4. Dead Alive aka Braindead (1992) Lawnmower Massacre

Peter Jackson’s gorefest peaks when Lionel straps on a lawnmower and wades through a sea of zombies. Blood sprays & limbs fly. To be fair the whole movie is glorious and excessive in the gore department.

3. The Evil Dead (1981) Pencil to the Ankle

Low-budget and high-impact, this nasty little jab is still one of the most wince inducing in horror history. It’s rough, raw, and iconic in its DIY nastiness. It still makes me cringe, even after multiple viewings.

2. City of the Living Dead (1980) Fulci’s Gut Churning Gag

When a priest hangs himself, it triggers a psychic chain reaction and poor Emily vomits out her insides in slow, goopy detail. Fulci doesn’t just cross the line he paints it in entrails.

1. Terrifier (2016) Hacksaw Mayhem

Art the Clown puts the “grind” in grindhouse with this scene. A woman’s fate is sealed upside down, as he carves her down the middle with a rusty saw. It’s gross, mean, and a modern splatter classic.
