Lists! I like compiling them especially when it’s horrific delights for your viewing pleasure. Streaming service Shudder has a wide range of terrifying treats. I’ve rounded up a mixture of Oldies and some of their best original movies for this trick or treat sack of spooky goodies.
8. Hellraiser (1987)
Clive Barker’s twisted tale of forbidden intrigue, pain & resurrection is a bonafide horror classic. Hellraiser’s core story is centred around Kirsty who relocates with her father and stepmother Julia to a new home on English soil. However Julia is hiding a dark secret one that involves Kirsty’s dead uncle Frank and a mysterious puzzle box “the lament configuration.
6. The Innkeepers (2012)
The Innkeepers is Ti West’s slow burn ghost story soaked in atmosphere and creeping dread. When two hotel workers turned ghost hunters uncover the disturbing past of their place of work. It is only a matter of time before something unnerving presents itself. It’s a complete slow burn but the final pay off is worth it.
1. Day Of The Dead (1985)
George A Romero’s follow up to Dawn of the Dead is leaner, meaner and more unforgiving. Set in a underground military base a group of zombie outbreak survivors and scientists wrestle with the living dead and a band of antagonistic military personnel. It’s a true zombie banger with Tom Savini’s incredible effects work and it’s eye popping gory moments.
That’s my list anyway, there’s no particular order as this isn’t a ranking just some heavyweight recommendations for this years Halloween season. All of the mentioned films are now available for streaming on Shudder UK.
